What goes Bump in the Nights of the Enchanted Mountains?

Now that it is getting darker earlier and the nights are getting just a little bit chillier, you know what's hiding around the corner getting ready to sneak up on you!   Halloween of course!  Here are the ghosts and goblins that await you in the Enchanted Mountains.   

Nightmare Hayrides on Sommerville St. will give you the ride of your life Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays in October and November 1st.  Not only do you have to survive the hayride, but there is the Gothic Chamber, Haunted Wooden Maze, Haunted Barn and Vortex Tunnel.  This is sure to get you feeling spooky!  Cost is $18.    

Ghost Tours of the Hinsdale Haunted House are back!  This is a real Haunted House with a whole lot of history behind it including an exorcism!  On the 9th, 10th, 16th, 17th, 23rd, and 24th you can go on Group Ghost Tours provided by the P.I.T. Society and hear the full story of this house.  Tickets are $20.   

Pumpkinville is great for the little spooks.  Take them through the Spookum Barn or try making your way through the corn maze!  This is a tradition for Autumn and Halloween every year in Western NY.  They close after Halloween and missing out would be a terrifying experience!

Search for Bigfoot at Rock City Park.  Okay, well it's a statue of Bigfoot but still you never know what you might find lurking in the crevices of three story tall rocks now do you?  They are open until November 1st.

Murder Mystery Theatre at Good Times of Olean on October 23rd is sure to get your blood racing.  You can enjoy a buffet then be part of this Murder Mystery where you can interact and watch a live radio broadcast set in the 1930 at the Imperial Ballroom in Atlantic City.  Cost is $35. 

Part of the fun of Halloween is telling and hearing scary stories!  The Seneca Iroquois National Museum will be telling some of their own on the 24th from 4-6pm with free admission!   Last year a witch showed up and you never know what will catch you by surprise this year! 

Halloween time is the perfect time to explore the superstitions surrounding mysterious wise old owls.  Take a night hike with Pfeiffer Nature Center on the 24th from 7pm to 9pm for $7 as they teach you about the species of owls in our neighborhood and help you identify which sounds are the owls!

How does walking around a Historic Theater not knowing what may remain from past performances sound?  Gowanda's Historic Hollywood Theater invites you to do that on Sunday the 25th and then the 29th-31st for just $5!  All proceeds benefits the Theater's Restoration efforts. 

A trick on "Begger's Night" for Halloween is "Baggers" Night at Gowanda Harley Davidson on October 30th starting at 5pm.  Children in costume can pass by bikers with their saddle bags filled with candy lined up in the parking lot!  Twice the candy, twice the fun!

Celebrate in style with cosmic bowling at Good Times of Olean for their Halloween Family Bowling.  Special lights, lasers and music will create an eerie experience and prizes will be given for best costumes so put them on early!   Cost is $49.95 and includes pizza, unlimited bowling, shoe rentals and so much fun it's scary!

While some people find the band KISS scary, the Seneca Allegany Events Center thinks nothing could fit Halloween better than makeup, costumes, and rock 'n roll!  They host Strutter, a KISS tribute band Halloween night for just $10!   

Have a wickedly good costume this year?  Join in one of the Costume Contests being held at the Bear Brick in Little Valley (hosting Goodbye Dawn) on Halloween or the Halloween Bash at Woods at Bear Creek (hosting Rock Angel) on Friday the 30th!  

Four Mile Brewing Company hosts a pumpkin carving contest on October 24th from 12pm-3pm, all tools will be provided and also a Halloween Costume Contest on Friday the 30th from 6-9pm with music by Molly and The Lavender Kings.  

If home is where the Haunt is for you this year, you can always find decorations to make it a bootiful night!  Try Willoughby's Furniture in Olean, the Tangled Twig in Ellicottville, and Spirit Halloween Store in the Olean Mall!

Whatever you decide to do, I hope you have a Spooktacular night! 

DATE PASSED, but plan ahead for next year! Griffis Sculpture Park puts its own costume on for one more weekend (through Sunday the 11th) with the Night Lights!  See the sculpture dressed up in bright colors as you walk around the fields in the dark!  Don't forget your flashlight!  Trails will open from 7:30pm to 9:30pm on Weds and Thurs.  From 7pm to 10pm on the weekends.  Cost is $5 for children 7 to 12, $10 for adults. 

DATE PASSED, but plan ahead for next year!Face your fear of Acrophobia at Holiday Valley with their Chairlift Rides through Sunday the 18th.  Ride up the hill as you take in the beautiful fall colors, then walk down the hill, or ride back down!  Saturdays and Sundays through Oct 18th (last day), 11am to 5pm.  Cost is $5 per rider. 

DATE PASSED, but plan ahead for next year!  Halloween Youth Lock-In on the 11th of October.  A night away from your kids might not be the scariest thing to you, but they can celebrate Halloween early at Good Times of Olean and have fun all night long!  Food, games, open bowling and a Costume contest will keep them entertained.
