Seriously, where did our summer go? Luckily, Route 16, through the entire span of the Enchanted Mountains, will be extra-energized the weekend of Sept 15th and 16th. First and foremost, there will be hundreds of garage sales along 43 miles of Route 16 in multiple communities including, Knapps Creek, Olean, Hinsdale, Maplehurst, Ischua, Franklinville, Machias, Delevan and Yorkshire. Not only will there be garage sales but also Chicken BBQ places along the route. If you should need a break from browsing there will still be plenty going on in each of the communities along the route. Knapp Creek is hosting their VFD ATV Dice Run on 9/15 from 9am- 6pm. All riders are welcome and there will be Chicken BBQ at this event as well. If 4-wheeling isn’t your thing, just minutes down the road is Rock City Park where the giant rock formations, scenic views and hiking trails are extraordinary enough to take your breath away. Hinsdale Community Days are also being held on 9/15 from 8am-3pm. The Historical Society will be hosting an open house to “Remember the Good Old Days.” There will be Hot dogs, root beer floats and Hinsdale’s own version of cookies and cream available for just $1 each. Located just 7.2 miles from Route 16 (Ischua) is Pumpkinville where they will be celebrating their opening season and more importantly, their 50th anniversary. What better way to wrap up the day than stopping there to polish off a pumpkin ice cream cone and some cider? The first ever Fall for Franklinville Festival will be held on Saturday, 9/15 from 10am- 10:30pm. There is an entire itinerary set so be sure to check out the schedule. The Southern Tier Symphony will be performing at the Olean High School on 9/15 at 7:30pm. So even if you aren’t able to make it to some of the other events during the day, you can still make a nice evening of Chicken BBQ for dinner and Southern Tier Symphony for a show. Now maybe you want to make a weekend of these events…where should you stay? If you are feeling really adventurous you could stay at the Haunted Hinsdale House where there is an Overnight Ghost Hunt with Para Expeditions! What an extraordinary experience and a great way to kick off the Halloween season. On the other hand, maybe you want to make a weekend of these events but you actually want to SLEEP and NOT disturb the paranormal world. Then you could stay at The Old Library Inn located in Olean, NY right on Route 16! This historical Bed and Breakfast is a beautiful landmark in Olean and would be a relaxing overnight getaway. There is also the Holiday Inn Express in Olean, NY just off of route 16. One way or another, there is a place for your family, friends and you to stay and have a fun-filled weekend!
